Student Leadership

We believe that every young person has the potential to be a great leader. At HASN, there are numerous opportunities for students to take on leadership roles.
Student Leadership opportunities are central to the way in which we develop students' experience and understanding of our values.
- Through the pursuit of leadership roles, students experience endeavour.
- Through leading others, students embrace responsibility.
- Through celebrating student leaders, students show kindness.
- Through being led by others and acknowleding their roles, students show respect.
There are a number of key leadership opportunities at HASN for students to pursue:
Student Council
Our elected student council represent every tutor group, and meet to discuss general issues facing the school. Students nominate themselves for election each January, campaign in their tutor group to be elected, and serve a 1 year term of office. The Student Council are the representative voice of the student body.
Prefects
Our Prefects are selected from our most exemplary Year 10 students, and represent the Academy at events and on duty around the school. They model our values of Respect, Responsibility, Kin
dness and Endeavour and support their peers. They also help to steer academy events and decision making through termly meetings with the leadership team.
Senior Prefects
Our Senior Prefects are Sixth form students, selected in Year 12 to lead and represent the Academy. Like our junior Prefects, they are exemplary students who role model our values. From the Senior Prefects, the school elects our Head Students who lead our overall student leadership team.
Student Committees
Throughout the year, groups of students come together to lead on other areas of school life. Some committees might coordinate raising and giving activities and charity events, others might focus on student facing events like the Prom or Culture Day. These student committees give an opportunity for passionate individuals to help steer the school's activities.
Studenty Librarians
Our Library is integral to our school - a sanctuary and place of learning and fun for all of our students. Our Librarian is ably assisted by a team of Student Librarians from across the Year Groups, who support in the workings of the Library. Student Librarians volunteer and are selected by the Librarian.
How do we recognise and celebrate student leaders?
One of the powerful ways in which we recognise students, especially those who lead our student community, is through the wonderful Jack Petchey Award scheme. This scheme allows us to recognise a different student each month who has gone above and beyond to represent and/or serve the Academy. These students are awarded a £300 grant to spend on something in the school. Pas winners have used this on everything from Sports Equipment to Library Books to curriculum resources. Students are also able to nominate their peers for a Jack Petchey Award.
