Uniform and Equipment

At Harris South Norwood, we believe that high standards of uniform underpin our ethos of togetherness.

We are one HASN community, and our uniform reinforces this. Students are expected to take responsibility for being in full uniform at all times. Wearing their uniform proudly is one of the many ways that we expect them to represent the school.

What are our uniform expectations?

Uniform expectations

The expectations outlined above are shared with students regularly and displayed around the school. Staff will check that uniform expectations are being met, and will contact parents and carers if there's an issue.

We understand that accidents happen and that items can be lost or damaged, so we keep a small stock of uniform available for loaning to students. However, persistent defiance of the uniform policy is treated as a behaviour issue and may lead to sanctions.

Where can I find second-hand uniform?

The Academy retains a stock of second-hand uniform, donated by previous students, and makes this available to both new starters and students unable to source new uniform. Students (and families) can make an appointment to visit the school office and try on second-hand uniform by emailing info@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk.

Leavers (in Year 11 or any other year group) are strongly encouraged to donate unwanted items of uniform. Likewise, as students grow out of past uniform it is greatly appreciated if uniform can be donated back to the school for the benefit of future generations of students.

What do I need to know about Footwear?

ShoesWe expect all students to be in plain black polishable school footwear. Students must not wear trainers or casual shoes to the Academy.

We are aware that many shops sell trainers in their school shoe section. The below features are NOT allowed:

  • Laces, tags, soles or designs that are not black
  • Any sports or fashion logo
  • Any canvas or soft material
  • A high ankle on the shoe (i.e. a boot)
  • Perforations or holes in the shoe (these are a feature of trainers)

The following image represents the type of footwear that is NOT permitted:

What equipment does my child need for school?

In order to take responsibility for their learning, we expect every child to ensure that they are fully equipped every day with the basic equipment. Our equipment expectations are outlined in the diagram below:

Equipment expectations

It is very important that students have the correct equipment with them at all times.  Successful learning will often be dependent upon this. If students forget to bring their equipment, they may be given a detention.

All of the equipment above can be purchased in the school Library before school, at break and at lunch time using cash, for at-cost prices (which are usually much cheaper than at stationery shops or supermarkets).
