School Meals & Menu

Catering at this academy

Working in partnership with Impact Foods, Harris Academy South Norwood is committed to providing a range of nutritious and affordable meals on a daily basis.

Our menu has been created after extensive research into student preferences; it is also nutritious and compliant with all government guidelines. The catering service includes an offering for breakfast, mid-morning break and lunch.

The menu aims to offer more of what students want, including good food that can be eaten on the go, as well as themed days to coincide with key dates such as Pancake Day, Burns Night, Diwali, etc.

Your child may be entitled to free school meals. Even if your child does not wish to eat free school meals, but is entitled to them, it's worth applying because for each child entitled to free school meals the Academy could receive funding to help with tuition, resources, coaching and extra assistance. Find out if your child is entitled to free school meals by visiting https://fsm.lgfl.net/. If you are eligible, please download the certificate and send it to Mrs Saunders SaundersJ2@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk with your child’s name as the subject. The meal value is £2.84

If your child has a special diet and/or has certain food intolerances, please contact us to let us know: info@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk

Here is a link to the Eatwell Guide (from Public Health England) – this provides a useful overview of what food groups make up a balanced and healthy diet.

How do School Meals work?

The canteen provides free porridge for every student from 8.05-8.25am every day, and we offer food and drinks for purchase during break and lunch.

The academy uses a cashless catering system for the food and drink purchases.  You can top up your child’s lunch card via ParentPay, or your child can add cash to their lunch card on machines in the canteen.

The break menu is varied and offers a small snack to keep students going until lunch. Students are also able to buy a sandwich at break that they may wish to keep for lunch, for example if they have a club to attend.

We have a canteen where hot food is served. We also have a ‘snack shack’ on the side playground where students can buy smaller hot meals, and a ‘lunch cube’ outside where students can buy sandwiches and wraps.

Students may bring a packed lunch and there is no need to let us know. We find that most families like to plan ahead, looking at our menus and mixing packed lunches with school meals according to personal taste and the activities their children are undertaking at the Academy.

How do I use ParentPay?

Using ParentPay, you are able to pay for Academy meals (cashless system), trips, music lessons, revision books, and lots more using your credit and debit cards.

To access parent guide please click on the link below:

Parent Guide

The Academy does not accept payment by cash or cheque but instead enables all payments to be processed through ParentPay. This is a free service to parents/carers and staff.

To use the system you will need your unique user ID and password. Parents receive a letter containing their user ID and password as soon as a child is fully registered as a student at the Academy so that they are able to start using ParentPay immediately.

ParentPay benefits our students and the Academy in many ways not least by removing the risks associated with students carrying cash to school and reducing administration which creates more time to devote to educational support and the smooth running of the Academy. For further information about using ParentPay to pay securely online for trips, music lessons, lunches and other activities please contact reception. info@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk

If you have any canteen queries, you can contact our Food Champion – Claire Stafford - staffordc@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk
