Enrichment & Extra-Curricular Activities

Honouring Talents, Broadening Horizons and Building Futures

At HASN, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our enrichment programme provides students with opportunities to discover new passions, develop lifelong skills, broaden their experiences and contribute positively to their community. Through a wide range of clubs, trips, leadership opportunities, competitions and cultural experiences, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, grow in confidence and become well-rounded young people.

The Department for Education's Enrichment Framework highlights five key enrichment categories that all schools should provide: Civic Engagement, Arts and Culture, Nature and the Outdoors, Sport and Physical Activity, and Developing Wider Life Skills. A broad and balanced enrichment offer across these categories helps students thrive both academically and personally.

Civic Engagement

Our students are encouraged to become active citizens who make a positive difference within school and the wider community.

Examples of opportunities include:

  • Student Leadership Team
  • Student Council
  • House Captains and Ambassadors
  • Peer Mentoring
  • Charity Fundraising Events
  • Community Volunteering Projects
  • Black History Month Activities

These experiences allow students to develop leadership, teamwork, empathy and social responsibility while helping them recognise the impact they can have on others.

Arts and Culture

Creativity is celebrated throughout HASN. We believe that arts and cultural experiences help students develop confidence, self-expression and an appreciation of diverse perspectives.

Examples of opportunities include:

  • Drama Club
  • School Productions and Performances
  • Choir and Music Ensembles
  • Art Club
  • Creative Writing Competitions
  • Cultural Heritage Celebrations
  • Museum and Theatre Visits
  • Black History Month Enrichment Activities

Through engagement in the arts, students learn to communicate effectively, collaborate with others and express their creativity in meaningful ways.

Nature, Outdoors and Adventure

Learning outside the classroom enables students to develop resilience, independence and an appreciation of the world around them.

Examples of opportunities include:

  • Educational Visits and Residential Trips
  • Outdoor Learning Activities
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Environmental and Sustainability Projects
  • Fieldwork Experiences
  • Geography Visits
  • Adventure Activities
  • Sports Leadership in Outdoor Settings

These opportunities encourage students to take risks safely, solve problems collaboratively and develop confidence through new experiences.

Sport and Physical Activity

Sport plays a vital role in promoting physical health, wellbeing and teamwork. Our enrichment programme offers students a variety of ways to stay active and engaged.

Examples of opportunities include:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Netball
  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Fitness and Gym Activities
  • Fixtures and Tournaments

Through participation in sport, students learn perseverance, self-discipline, leadership and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Developing Wider Life Skills

Preparing students for the future is a key part of our enrichment offer. We provide opportunities that help students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for adult life.

Examples of opportunities include:

  • Debating and Public Speaking
  • Careers Events
  • University and Apprenticeship Visits
  • Financial Education
  • Enterprise Challenges
  • STEM Club
  • Coding and Computing Activities
  • Literacy and Numeracy Support Programmes
  • Revision and Study Skills Workshops
  • Wellbeing and Mental Health Programmes

These experiences equip students with the communication, problem-solving and organisational skills that will help them succeed in education, employment and wider British citizenship.
