Citizenship
We are committed to developing students as active, informed and responsible citizens.
Our Personal development programme promotes British Values explicitly - democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance - through lessons, assemblies and student leadership opportunities.
We are proud of our richly multicultural community, where diversity is celebrated and students learn to respect and understand different perspectives.
How do students develop leadership skills?
We encourage students to take on leadership roles, enhancing their confidence and sense of responsibility. Opportunities include:
- Becoming a school prefect.
- Acting as tour guides or mentors.
- Our student council meet every week to provide feedback to SLT on how the school can improve
- Participating in performances, clubs, and enrichment activities.
How do students at HASN engage with our wider community?
Students have lots of opportunities to engage positively with the wider community, including:
- Our Community Hub, supporting local families with essential supplies
- Termly charity days and fundraising initiatives
- Responding to real-world events, such as organising support following hurricane Melissa in Jamaica
These experiences bring our values of Kindness, Responsibility and Diversity to life, helping students understand their role in society.
How does our curriculum promote Fundamental British Values?
Fundamental British Values are central to the PDC at HASN, and are present and promoted throughout the SPHERE curriculum. Many assemblies, SPHERE sessions and current affairs sessions focus in on one or more British Values. All staff at HASN are committed to upholding and promoting these shared values and norms.
