Why We Study Music
At South Norwood, we study music to build confidence through performance and to develop self-discipline through rehearsal and preparation. We study to gain the ability to refine and improve continuously. We foster creativity and allow for emotional expansion. We study to understand how to listen, building emotional integrity while developing a recognition of musical complexity.
We study GCSE & A Level as well as Level 2 RSL Vocational qualifications.
With performances at The Christmas Concert, Jazz Café, Norwood’s Got Talent, Harris on Stage, Harris in Harmony, Singing in the Community, Talent of the Boroughs, NORFEST & our End of Year Musical (to name but a few), the opportunities to perform are endless!
What studying Music is like at HASN
In music, students study a variety of instruments including keyboard, percussion, ukulele, guitar, drums & singing. Music provides opportunities to learn to perform, listen and compose. Students also get to engage with professional music software from a young age in our Mac suite, complete with Logic Pro on all computers. We learn where music came from, how songs are structured, and what a chord sequence is. We then learn to perform using those elements before learning to create using them. Students gain the confidence to perform by learning in a calm, creative classroom and are supported on their musical journey. Students learn to listen, respect and applaud performers. They are given a space to create in and a space to express themselves.
