Why Choose Us

Why should I send my child to Harris Academy South Norwood?

Whether you are looking for academic excellence, a culture of the highest expectations, or a fantastic extra-curricular experience (or perhaps all of the above!), HASN is the school for your child.

Exceptional Academic ResultsHarris Academy South Norwood Student in Science Class

In 2024, the Academy received its best results ever, amongst the best in the country for schools in similar areas, and way above the average for schools in Croydon and Bromley in nearly every measure. HASN achieved a progress 8 score of over +0.44, meaning students achieve nearly half a grade better in every GCSE than the national average. This meant that students at HASN made better academic progress than any other mixed comprehensive in Croydon or Bromley in 2024. In Summer 2025, our results were even better, and this exceptional academic progress was sustained into Summer 2026.

Beyond Year 11, over 80% of our students go on to University, with many progressing to Cambridge, Medicine and industry-leading degree apprenticeships in recent years.

In our parent survey last year, 94% of parents said they would recommend the school to other parents.

Amazing opportunities

Sport, Music, Art and Drama are all central to life at HASN.

Every child Harris Academy South Norwood Students Rock Climbingin Year 7, 8 and 9 participates in Enrichment at HASN. We run more than 30 different after-school clubs, with traditional sports and music clubs as well as so many more, including a thriving chess club, a videogame coding club, and even a Greek mythology club!

The performing arts flourish here, with a vibrant school choir and drama clubs. The School Musical runs over at least 3 nights every summer and is always sold out! Our Talent Show, Christmas Concert and Jazz cafe performances mean that hundreds of students have an opportunity to shine every year.

Our PE department and Sixth Form Football Academy (in partnership with Kinetic) train exceptional sportspeople, and we compete across London across a range of disciplines. Our Football and Basketball teams consistently rank among the best in the capital.

Artists shine at HASN, taking advantage of our incredible spaces and facilities. Our students curate an annual residential exhibition in the local Stanley Arts centre, and contribute their talents to local restoration projects like the Goat House Bridge.

Life-changing experiences

We believe that every child should make life-long memories at school. We invest heavily in ensuring our students get the opportunity to experience the best that London (and beyond) has to offer, and we ensure that no child's family circumstances should be a barrier to that.

ResidenYr7 pgl 3tial Trips take place for Years 7, 8 and 9 each year, helping every child develop their character, resilience and sense of belonging. Overseas Trips to Berlin, Iceland, Paris and Barcelona run for Humanities and Languages students to enable them to immerse themselves in their subjects.

Students in Years 9-13 have the opportunity to undertake the incredible Duke of Edinbrugh's award (in 2026 we have over 70 students taking part across Bronze and Silver). Throughout every year, numerous culturally enriching visits to Museums, theatres, musicals and beyond ensure that every child at HASN has the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom through the HASN Journey.

Great pastoral care

At HASN, every child is safe, known, challenged and included. Our Heads of Year are non-teaching, meaning they're available at all times to support your child. Alongside this team, we have an on-site counsellor, dedicated wellbeing practitioners through the excellent Croydon mental health team, and external behaviour mentors through partnerships with organisations such as Reaching Higher and Ment 4. We aspire to know every child well, and this means what will help them feel happy and a sense of belonging.
