Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre.
On Wednesday 23rd September, 40 students from Harris Academy South Norwood were given the incredible opportunity to perform at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre.
Working alongside the Multi-Story Orchestra, their Young Creatives, and a dozen singers from our friends at Harris Academy Peckham, 40 of our students took part in a unique performance featuring a series of songs written by young people from Peckham and Croydon. Sharing the stage with professional musicians made the experience even more special and gave our students a valuable insight into the world of professional performance.
A particular highlight was Rachel O (Year 12), who performed as a soloist during the concert. Rachel's involvement with the project extends beyond the stage, as she has now become one of the Young Creatives, helping to develop and write material for future performances. This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of her talent, dedication and creativity.
The concert was an incredible experience for everyone involved. Our students demonstrated outstanding commitment throughout rehearsals and performed with confidence, energy and professionalism on one of the country's most prestigious stages. They were superb ambassadors for the academy and should be immensely proud of their achievements.
The impact of the experience was perhaps best summed up by one parent, who shared:
"This was a very enjoyable evening, and I am so SO grateful that my daughter got to experience something so amazing as singing in a proper London venue.
I have been very impressed with the performing arts offering at HASN - both what is offered within the school, and the extra trips and opportunities."
We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part and grateful to the Multi-Story Orchestra for making this opportunity possible. It was a memorable evening that showcased the talent, creativity and ambition of our young people, and one that will stay with them for many years to come.
