Year 9 Options

Year 9 options 2026

All students study English Literature, English Language, Maths and Science. Students must select four other optional subjects. Students must choose either Geography, RE or History. They may choose to study 2 or 3 of these subjects.

You will need to choose one option from each of the option blocks, along with a reserve subject in each block. Students following the EBACC pathway must also choose a language, either French or Spanish.

Students on the support pathway will choose three options and will also receive three additional periods of English & Maths in a smaller classroom environment, allowing us to give students more personalised attention, tailoring activities to their learning needs and building confidence in their CORE studies via an ongoing support programme.

To help your discussions with your child:

  1. Read through the Option Subject Booklet with your child. It contains a lot of useful information about each course, such as the course content and specification details (see the bottom of the page and select the correct booklet).

  2. Research some possible careers using Unifrog - Students have a login to this excellent resource.
  3. Your child will have an assembly on Tuesday, 17th March, to explain the process with Mr Adams and Ms Campbell

  4. There will be a Parents and Options Evening on Tuesday, 17th March.

  5. You will be emailed a link to the online Options form, and we ask that this is submitted by the end of the Easter Holidays

The forms that you use to submit your final Options Choices are below. Please only complete this form once you have:

  1. Thought carefully about what careers or university courses you are interested in, and what subjects could help you get to your final destination

  2. Researched what sixth form or college programmes you might be interested in and consequently what subjects you will need.

  3. Read through the Options Booklet with your parents.

  4. Contacted Mr Adams or Ms Campbell for further information if required: adamiuka@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk or campbelld@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk
