Literacy at Home

Welcome to the Literacy at home page.

Literacy Policy can be found here

As we come to the end of another successful year in the academy, we hope that you and our pupils are looking forward to an enjoyable summer. It is a time for relaxation, for play and for leisure activities, however, it is also a time when the evidence suggests that all pupils regress. Indeed, the evidence is startling.

If pupils do nothing educational over the summer holidays, they will, on average, lose two months’ worth of reading skills and one month’s worth of overall learning. Nationally, pupils make the least amount of progress between summer exams and their next set of assessments in the autumn and this is due to the summer break.

However, the good news is that the evidence also suggests that a mere two to three hours a week counters any regression. With this in mind, the teachers across the academy have provided all the students with subject pre-reading, subject spellings and recommended leisure reading for the summer. These resources can be found below.

Please take the time to read the resources, learn the spellings, and be inspired to read any of the suggested books, all of which will give you a real advantage for the new year and beyond!
