Physical Education

Why We Study Physical Education
At Harris Academy South Norwood, we study PE to develop confident, healthy and resilient young people who understand the value of an active lifestyle and lifelong participation in sport and physical activity. Through PE, students build physical competence, teamwork, leadership, discipline and resilience, while also developing a strong understanding of how sport and activity contribute to physical, mental and social wellbeing. PE encourages students to challenge themselves, work collaboratively, and respond positively to success and setback. It equips students with transferable skills such as communication, problemâsolving and selfâreflection, supporting success both in education and beyond.
What studying Physical Education is like at HASN:
In Core PE, students develop physical skills, tactical understanding and confidence through activities such as net games, invasion games, athletics, and striking and fielding. They learn to apply strategies, improve performance and work effectively as a team.
At Key Stage 4, students can study CNAT Sport Studies, combining practical performance with classroom learning. Units explore contemporary issues in sport, performance and leadership, and outdoor adventurous activities, helping students build practical, analytical and leadership skills.
At Key Stage 5, CTEC Sport offers more specialised study, developing advanced knowledge and preparing students for further education or careers in sport and fitness.
Across all stages, PE promotes high expectations, teamwork and reflection, encouraging students to challenge themselves and celebrate achievement.
