Global Enterprise Week - 14th - 20th November

The Academy celebrated Global Enterprise Week at Academy through a number of enterprising activities and challenges; which ranged from the identification of enterprising skills in lessons, a business and enterprise hub evening, the Dragons Den competition and Enfuse London workshops.

The business and enterprise hub evening involved a number of parents and students coming to the Academy after school to take part in four enterprising workshops including healthy eating, internet safety, enterprise and personal finance – the evening was a great success and with parents leaving feeling more secure about the types of activities that students take part in at school and the importance of the Academy Specialism for our students.

The dragons den competition will allow students to develop their own student businesses. Five groups have been chosen to develop their product or service and really understand the challenges of running their own business including developing their business idea, marketing, selling, understanding finance as well as trying to make a profit. Students are excited to see how working as part of a team will allow them to make a profit in the coming months.

Enfuse London came to the Academy to run Workshops imparting Career guidance, personal development and employability skills to 40 students in Year 12 and 40 students in Year 10. The workshops featured young, successful entrepeneurs / celebrities, who had an inspirational story on how they turned their enthusiasm into a dream career. The workshops were inspiring and beneficial to our students  and our guests included Ashley Baptiste, x-band member of the Risk from the X-Factor TV show. Ashley had an inspirational story to tell the students about his challenging upbriniging, the celebration of his graduation from Cambridge University and his future in the music industry. Students were excited and inspired from Ashley's story and the workshops that took place.

"The workshop inspired me to think about the direction of my chosen career choice", Jordan McKlusky (Year 12).

"I've always wanted to run my own business. The Enfuse event allowed me to realise that in everyday life I have the opportunity to network with people that could help me in the future", Omari McNamee (Year 10).
