Whole Education
On Monday 16th May 2011, Commissioners from across the Federation, attended the ‘Whole Education Launch Event’ at the Emirates stadium in North London. The event showcased a number of keynote speakers who presented their views on what employers are looking for in a 21st century workforce and the importance of life skills. Commissioners had the opportunity to present their learning experiences with a range of inspirational and innovative researchers, employers and university professors.
Joel Kyereme, Leah Henry and Shakira Skervin represented Harris South Norwood and outlined their experience as Student Commissioners and how it has enhanced their learning experiences at Harris Academy. They also worked with other commissioners in the federation to launch the Commission’s latest publication which outlines the entitlements and opportunities in our New Design for Learning. Needless to say, they were utterly awesome! They were confident and eloquent and impressively captivated an audience of 200 delegates!

An exciting day out at the Emirates, despite the fact that we didn’t actually watch an Arsenal game! We had the amazing opportunity to take part in a prestigious educational event. We first listened to a number of important people talking about education. We were so excited to be them, that we wanted to jump out of our seats and speak to everyone! The size of the audience made us a bit nervous but it also gave us a boost of confidence in speaking in front of the 200+ audience! Let’s not forget that as Commissioners we have been successfully delivering presentations for quite some time now. It was finally our chance to take the stand. The work of the commission is held to great regard by lots of very important and influential people in the world of education. We talked about the work we have carried out so far and our future plans. We concentrated on presenting a set of entitlements for learners and teachers and we got to explain which ones we personally find exciting and why. We presented a number of ideas or opportunities that we have thought of in order to ensure all students get the best education they deserve. The delegates were so interested in what we had to say – it suddenly dawned on us that we are part of something really big. Following our presentation, there were so many questions! We were surrounded by people who seemed excited and genuinely intrigued by our projects and the impact they have on our learning experience. Delegates left clutching our new publication ‘New Design for Learning’ and we left feeling a sense of achievement. We can’t wait for the next opportunity to showcase the work of the commission to the world!
