GCSE Construction
Qualification obtained: BTEC First in Construction and the Built Environment: for level 2
Why study BTEC Construction & The Built Environment?
Are you good at communicating? Are you good at solving problems? Can you work independently and in groups? If yes to these questions then BTEC Construction is for you!
This course will test your practical skills, communication skills and your ability to produce work on time, every time.
Course Outline
The examining board is BTEC. The course consists of core, mandatory and specialist units, ensuring all learners develop areas of essential construction knowledge.
Unit 1: Construction Technology. Externally assessed
Unit 2: Construction and Design. Internally assessed
Mandatory units
Unit 3: Science and Mathetical Applications for Construction
This unit prepares students for understanding how to use mathematical techniques to solve construction problems. Internally assessed
Optional Specialist Units
This will be the practical unit which will provide the opportunity for students to focus more closely on a vocational area, supporting progression into more specialised level 3 vocational course, academic course or into an apprenticeship.
(Typical units covered will be: Exploring Carpentry and Joinery Principles and Techniques). Internally assessed.
Required Skills/Attributes
You should have a passion for the construction & built environment world, good visual communication skills and be interested in developing an understanding of the broad perspectives of the design and construction world. You must be good at problem solving have basic ICT skills. You must be prepared to work in groups or independently. You must also have good time management and personal organisation skills, these are essential if coursework deadlines are to be met successfully.
Future Pathways
The BTEC Construction &the Built Environment course allows you the freedom to express yourself in a structured environment though coursework which you will find engaging, stimulating and exciting. There are opportunities to embark on a diverse array of Post 16 studies and careers, these include engineering, architecture, Quantity Surveying, Electrician, Site Management, Plumbing & many more.
