Young Mayor Elections 2018
Vote Shea Williams
I believe I’m ideal for the role of Young Mayor of Croydon for a number of reasons. Firstly I have grown up around Croydon, my school and church are in the borough, and I’m in Croydon Town Centre all the time with friends to shop and socialise.
Secondly, I have a few ideas about how to improve the lives and prospects of the young people of Croydon, including exposure to different cultural and academic opportunities such as those provided by the Harris Experience Programme in my school. Another idea is to create a similar event to the Lambeth Achievement Awards, but recognising the various success of pupils- not just academic.
I have the confidence, motivation and perseverance to deliver ideas supported by the young people. If I were Mayor, I’d represent Croydon by making sure the cabinet and I listen to people’s ideas and issues by meeting with them and through other means such as social media.
I have always been able to do well in school; I achieve high grades; I have been a peer mediator and at primary school twice received achievement awards. I’m also an army cadet, learning multiple life skills that I believe should be taught to all young people.
I know that I am fortunate enough to have many academic opportunities given to me but I am aware this is not the same for everyone in Croydon, and as Young Mayor I would hope to help change this.
